Good morning one and all present here. I'm ____________ and I deem it my privilege to share my views on the topic 'What is normal is decided by the society we live in.' This statement is true in every sense of the word and most importantly shows the role of a society in setting norms within the framework of the society.

India is a vast country with diverse culture and traditions. Every society has its own customs and rituals which become a mandate of the society and I am supposed to follow them giving respect to the society.  For, we can never go according to our whims and fancies when we are a part of a society. In a matriarch society, the predominance of women is normal and no one finds it weird.

Similarly, in a rural setup in India women may have to follow a conservative lifestyle which is normal for that society, but in an urban setup, such practices may be ridiculed as that is not normal for them. I would like to emphasize here though practices may become normal or abnormal depending upon the norms of a particular society, one must always strive for better practices that bring growth and prosperity.

I would like to conclude my speech with a request to my audience to choose just between nor normal and good. Thanks for being a patient listener.

‘What is Normal is Decided by the Society We Live in’

Good morning everyone present here. I am going to expatiate on ‘what is normal is decided by the society we live in.’ who can deny the truth in the statement? Society sets the perimeters and we have to abide by them. The moment we feel tempted to go beyond them or feel an urge to do what we like, we are checked by the limits set by the society.

Let me elucidate my argument with a few examples. Let’s first take the case of a man who wishes to ride his vehicle in the middle of the road or on the wrong side at a speed that is dangerous for others; this sense of thrill will be immediately checked by the society. People will complain against it; and the police will soon intervene.

Let’s take another example of a young child who does not want to study; he just wants to stay at home, watch TV, sleep, eat, drink and be merry! The society will immediately jump into action. First of all his parents will object to it; if he does not listen to them, the public counselor will counsel him. The entire society will have him admitted to a school.

So, we see society plays a very crucial role in determining what is normal for us. Though society allows us to be creative and imaginative; but it promptly checks our abnormality and eccentricities.
