With each passing day, it’s not hard to see that the state of affairs of the world seem so overbearing, hurtful, angry, cold-hearted, and downright discouraging.  It doesn’t take long until your own world, inside this larger one we live in, can start to feel like and take on the same views.  As we decorate for fall, in anticipation of a season of abundance, one simple word hangs over our fireplaces at the heart of our homes: Thankful.  One simple word that is the key to unlocking so much more: kindness, thoughtfulness, genuineness, love, and above all, having an attitude of gratitude.

We have come across several individuals, all in different places that on separate occasions have mentioned this idea of living daily gratitude and the powerful and positive impact that has.  This impact not only packs a powerful punch of positivity, kindness, thoughtfulness, genuineness, and thankfulness in our own lives, but also impacts the lives of all those around us.  Sit with this thought for a minute; your daily attitude of gratitude can change the lives of those around you. The power that resides in recognizing the ability for you to impact others and change their lives, for the better, instantaneously makes us feel joyful, optimistic, and hopeful!  And we have witnessed in our personal lives how this daily attitude of gratitude makes all the difference!

Answer:

Gratitude is Great

Gratitude means thanks and appreciation. Gratitude, which rhymes with "attitude," comes from the Latin word gratus, which means "thankful, pleasing." When you feel gratitude, you're pleased by what someone did for you and also pleased by the results. Unlike indebtedness, you're not anxious about having to pay it back.

Gratitude reduces materialism. The problem with materialism is that it makes people feel less competent, reduces feelings of relatedness and gratitude, reduces their ability to appreciate and enjoy the good things of life, generates negative emotions, and makes them more self-centered.

Acts of gratitude keep the world from getting gloomy. Gratitude brightens our day. Being thankful for even the little things that others do for us should be the way of our life. Parents sacrifice so much for their children. They cared for us when we were helpless infants. Their love and care continue even when we are able to stand on our own feet. But sadly many people forget to express their gratitude to their parents. When their parents get old and frail, they ignored them. In their hour of need we must be there for them just as they did to us when we were unable to take care of ourselves. Parents make sacrifices but expect nothing in return. They are happy as long as you are doing well. There is nothing in the world by which we can repay them. The least we can do for them is to express our love and gratitude to them.

There are also many other people we should not forget to show gratitude. They may be our teachers, our friends, or even a stranger.

There is more to expression of gratitude in our family and social life. There is also scientific evidence that expressing genuine gratitude on a daily basis can improve physical health as well by improving quality of sleep, cardiovascular (heart) health and immune function. Gratitude promotes optimism and helps us to develop a more positive outlook.

Gratitude is great. Gratitude does not make you lesser, it makes you greater. It increases your value as a human being. Gratitude is an outward expression that shows your inward self because it comes from the heart.
