Greetings to all present here- respected dignitaries, teachers and my friends.

As we all know that Ganesha festival is publicly celebrated in many parts of India. The credit goes to the  great freedom fighter and thinker Lokmanya Tilak. This festival was introduced publicly in India at the  time of the British rule. It was necessary to gather people at one place in order to exchange ideas and  thoughts. So this festival was introduced publicly and gained a huge success. But gradually it started  losing its credibility as more focus was put on to its decoration than on to the exchange of ideas and  noble thoughts.

But as we all know nature has rung the alarm bell in the form of global warming. We must avoid the  things are causing harm to nature. Now it's time to look at Ganesha festival in a different perspective.

Eco friendly decoration has become the necessity. Right from the Ganesha idol to its decoration we all  should emphasis on natural things. Ganesha idol should be made up of clay and not Plaster of Paris as it  doesn't dissolve in water. We should use only those things for decoration that can be easily disposed.

For example - flowers, leaves, paper, fruits.

So we can enjoy this eco friendly festival without harming nature.

Thank you.

Answer:

Celebration of Ganesh Festival in Eco-friendly Manner

Good morning everyone present here; I am here to speak on a very important topic that needs our immediate attention. This is quite challenging as it is related to our religious sentiments. Well, time has come for all of us to choose between God’s creation and man’s creation. God created the environment and man created rituals. These rituals have adversely affected God’s beautiful environment.  All life forms adapt according to the existential challenges and difficulties, man included.

Man has made his life so complex that he appears to have been lost in the labyrinths he unwittingly or wittingly woven around himself. One such labyrinth is the labyrinth of environmental degradation. It had never been so critical in the entire history of mankind as it is now.  Man’s thoughtless and short-sighted approach to life mingled with greed and avarice have brought the entire life on the brink of annihilation. He must change his life-style, traditions, customs, festivals, and general ways of living in such a manner as don’t interfere with the balance of environment any longer. If he doesn’t, life will cease to exist. Keeping the critical state of environment in mind,

Ganesha Festival needs to be celebrated in eco-friendly manner. I felt so bad seeing thousands of idols of Lord Ganesha being thrown heedlessly near water bodies. I also saw cranes crushing these idols to dispose them off. Most of idols are painted with toxic paints and chemicals. When the idols are consigned in water bodies, these chemicals are blended into water that further affects the aquatic animals and plants negatively.  People must find out ways to stop this pollution because our environment has reached its limit. Let’s stop polluting environment in the name of traditions and rituals otherwise soon we will all be dead. Who will celebrate these festivals then? .
