this is because speed is a scalar quantity whereas velocity is a vector quantity. Speed has no direction, only magnitude whereas velocity has both magnitude as well as direction. That's why there can be a difference in their values.

Answer:

Explanation:

Speed is a scalar quantity. It has only magnitude.Velocity is a vector quantity. It has both magnitude and direction.Speed is 0, then velocity is 0.If velocity is 0, then speed may or may not be 0.
