Answer:

speed of sound in CO2= 276.89 m/s

Explanation:

Formula for velocity of sound in any gas medium =ôRT/M

where gamma(¥) is ratio of specific heat (Cp/Cv)

R is universal gas constant

T is absolute temperature (i.e, in Kelvin)

and M is molecular mass of gas in kg

Gamma(¥) is also = 1 + 2/f.....

where f is degree of freedom

so value for f for both air(Nitrogen as it is more in content) and carbon dioxide is 5 as N2 is diatomic and CO2 is triatomic( linear).

so as f is same for both N2(or air) and CO2 we can keep gaama as such as it will cancel out while solving

So velocity of sound in air= √¥RT/ 28 × 10^-3

where 28×10^-3 is molecular weight of nitrogen in kg

and velocity of sound in CO2= √¥RT/44×10^-3

where 44×10^-3 is molecular weight of CO2 in kg

Then divide...

velocity of sound in CO2/ velocity of sound in air = (√¥RT/44 × 10^-3) / ( ¥RT/28 × 10^-3)

as already given that velocity of sound in air=348.2 m/s

so you can keep that value in above equation and then you will get finally the velocity of sound in carbon dioxide i.e. 276.89 m/s

I hope it will help ...Please mark it as brainliest if it is right
