Speed of sound depends on the density and the amount of matter present in the particular volume of space .. for eg speed of sound is more in solids as compared to liquid and air .. that's because solid possess more number of molecules and atoms per unit volume I mean the density of material is more they are more closely packed thus sound travels faster..
