Step-by-step explanation:

Given Spice Airline has a free luggage allowance of f kg.If any passenger carries excess luggage, it is  charged at a constant rate per kg. The total luggage  charge paid by two passengers Mohan and Sohan is  1050. If each of Mohan and Sohan had carried  twice the luggage he actually did, their luggage  charges would have been 2400 and 900  respectively. Find Mohan's luggage charge.

  • Let f be the free luggage.
  • Let Mohan carries a luggage of m and luggage carried by Sohan be s
  • Now when they take extra charge of m – f and s – f
  • So total they pay will be m – f + s – f = 1050 -----------1
  • When they carry twice the luggage then we have
  •                         2m – f = 2400 ---------------2
  •                         2s – f = 900---------------------3
  • Adding equation 2 and 3 we get
  •                      2m + 2s – 2f = 3300
  •                 So m + s – f = 1650
  •                 So m + s – 2f = 1050 (from eqn 1)
  •           Subtracting we get
  •                 So f = 600
  •      Now 2m – f = 2400
  •          Or 2m – 600 = 2400
  •         Or 2m = 2400 + 600
  •        Or 2m = 3000
  •         Or m = 1500
  •       So Mohan gets 600 free, so we get
  •                  1500 - 600 = 900
  • So excess levied or charge on Mohan’s luggage is Rs 900.
