Area = (2 x 12) + (2 x 8) = 24 + 16 = 40 cm²

Question (b):

Area = 5 x (7 x 7) = 5 x 49 = 245 cm²

Question (c):

Area = (5 x 1) + (4 x 1)  = 5 + 4 = 9 cm²

( a ) Area of the figure ( a )

= Area of ABFG + Area of BCDE

= 20 + 20

= 40 square units

( b ) Area of the figure ( b )

= 5 × Area of each square

= 5 × 7²

= 5 × 49

= 245 square units

( c ) Area of the figure ( c )

= 5 × 1 + 4 ×1

= 5 + 4

= 9 square units
