Answer:

y =  - 1 \:  \: or \:  \: y =  - 4

Step-by-step explanation:

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  {y}^{2}  + 5y + 4 = 0 \\  \\ \\   =  >  {y}^{2}  + 4y + y + 4 = 0 \\  \\  \\  =  >  ({y}^{2}  + y) + (4y + 4) = 0 \\  \\  \\  =  > y(y + 1) + 4(y + 1) = 0 \\  \\  \\  =  > (y + 1) + (y + 4) = 0

Therefore , either

 \:  \:  \:  \: y + 1 = 0 \\  \\  =  > y =  - 1

Or,

  \:  \: \:  \:  \:  \: y + 4 = 0 \\  \\  =  > y =  - 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Hey mate

I have an interesting method to do this

if we want this method to be done

we could first calculate

(-b±√b²-4ac)/2a

Then we will get the roots of the equation

Then we could split the middle term easily

Here's the solution

First by doing with that formula

a=1 b=5 c=4

so in formula

(-5±5²-4*1*4)/2*1

=(-5±25-16)/2

=(-5±9)/2

=(-5±3)/2

=(-5+3)/2 ,(-5-3)/2

=(-2/2),(-8/2)

=(-1),(-4)

So y=-1,-4

therfore

now we can add this value in split the middle term steps

+5y+4

y(y+1)+4(y-1)

(y+1)(y+4)

y=-1,-4

Done

;D
