Sponge is a solid but still compressible as it contains small pores, so when we press it the air passes through it and it compressed but it has a definite shape, size and volume that's why it is considered as solid.....

The sponge is a solid still it can change its shape on being pressed because:

  • The sponge has small pores in which air is trapped.
  • It has a porous structure.
  • The sponge is considered as solid as it has a definite shape and mass.
  • When the sponge is pressed air inside the pores comes out and it compresses.

Hence, due to these reasons sponge is a solid still it can change its shape on being pressed.
