sponge is solid but it can compress easily. Why?

Here is ur answer :---
Sponge is considered to be solid as it does not change it shape by itself , it changes its shape by the action of force we apply on it. It has tiny pores in which air is filled so when we press it the air moved out of the sponge and it becomes easily compressible.

a sponge has a minute hole s, in which air is trapped ,when we press it , the air is expelled out and we are able to compress it . hence, sponge can be compressed .
