Sponge is a solid because it have fixed shape and volume that's the only reason it don't have all the qualities of solid state ..
it is wrong. Sponge is a solid and also have all the qualities of a solid but also it has the property to compress

This is because sponge follow the principle of compressibility. It has minuete holes,in which air is trapped and when we press it,the air is expelled out and we are able to compress it.
