Solution -

The given quadratic equation is as follows -

=> f ( x ) = x² + 5x + 8 .

Let us assume that the roots of the equation are a and b .

Now , we know that -

For a quadratic equation of the form,

ax² + bx + c ,

Sum of the zeroes => { - b / a }

Here , f ( x ) = x² + 5x + 8

Here , b = 5 and a = 1.

Substituting these values , we can obtain the sum of the zeroes -

=> Sum of zeroes = ( - 5 / 1 )

=> Sum of zeroes is -5 .

Squaring this -

The required value of the square of the sum of the zeroes is 25.

This is the required answer .
