(consider ~ as proportionality constant, and V and I as potential difference and current respectively)

Hence both are directly proportional, their division will produce a proportionality constant, say it 'R'.

V~I

V/I = R

The term R is called Resistance here, if resistant is more, current is less, if Resistance is less, current more.

V / I = R

or V = IR

or V/R = I
