during the second half of the 19th Century, many reformers in South India demanded the creation of a society based on social equality and Justice. One of the prominent reformers among them was Sree Narayana Guru from Kerala.
Narayan Guru held from Ezhava family. Ezhavas where considered to be very low in the cast hierarchy point having experienced the operation of caste system in his early years, he tirelessly worked for the betterment of untouchables and formation of Hindus Society. For this purpose, he founded the the Sree Narayana Dharma paripalana Yogam in 1903.
he believed that there was no reason for caste difference is to continue among human beings. According to him, all those who possesses humanity are human being. He give the message of one caste ,one God and one religion for the entire humankind. His stabilized number of schools to educate people of lower caste.
- The Kerala High Court said that Sree Narayana Guru cannot be considered as a God as he was a social reformist. The court noted that neither can Sree Narayana Guru be considered as a God, nor can gurumandirams be treated as temples.
- He led a reform movement in Kerala, rejected casteism, and promoted new values of spiritual freedom and social equality.
