1) When calcium oxide reacts with water, Calcium hydroxide is formed with development of heat in the solution along with a hissing sound.

2) The product formed is calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2.

3) Calcium hydroxide is a base and can be tested with a red litmus paper, pH paper or by reacting it with a known acid.

4) CaO + H2O -----> Ca(OH)2
