Answer:

1.5 km/hr is speed of stream

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the boat in still water =x km/hr and the speed of the stream y km/hr.

and speed upstream =x−y= 18/3=6...(i)

speed downstream=x+y=36/4=9...(ii)

Subtracting eq (ii) from eq (i), we get,

x+y=9

- x+y=-6

2y=3

⇒ y=1.5 km/hr

The speed of the stream 1.5 km/hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

3 hours time is taken by Srithar  for rowing upstream  18 km.

4 hours time is taken by Srithar  for rowing downstream 36 km.

To Find:

The speed of the stream.

Formula Use:

Upstream  speed of  row  = (p−q) km/hr, where  p is the speed of row in still water and q is the speed of the stream             -----formula no.01

Downstream speed of row  = (p+q) km/hr, where  p is the speed of  row  in still water and  q is the speed of the stream.       ----- formula no.02

Solution:

As given- 3 hours time is taken by Srithar  for rowing upstream  18 km.

        Speed of row in upstream = Distance / Time

                                                      =\frac{18}{3}  =  6 km/hr

Applying formula no.01

Upstream  speed of  row  = (p−q)

                                         6=p-q       -------equation 01.

As given- 4 hours time is taken by Srithar  for rowing downstream 36 km.

        Speed of row in downstream  = Distance / Time

                                                           =\frac{36}{4}  =9 km/hr

Applying formula no. 02.

Downstream speed of row= ( p+q)

                                         9=p+q           ---------- equation no.02

Subtracting equation no.01 by equation no. 02, we get.

3= 2 q

q = 1.5 km/hr

Thus, the speed of the stream is 1.5 km/hr.

Correct Question

Srithar rows 18 km upstream in 3 hours and 36 km  downstream is 4 hours than speed of the stream .
