Yes St. Francis Xavier made big contributions towards spreading the Catholic faith especially in Asian countries. After the Reformation Movement in Europe, Ignatius Loyala formed the Society of Jesus wherein St Francis Xavier was the co-founder.
This 'society' looked to reform the Catholic Church but St. Francis Xavier was more intent on spreading the faith. So he travelled to Asia. There he went about spreading the Catholic faith & beliefs in Mongolia, China, Turkey and finally came to India. Here he worked until his death in 1552 & was buried in Bom Jesus Basilica, Old Goa.
He was canonised as a Saint in 1622.
