Stag was drinking water quenching his thirst besides flowing river. He was having leisure time and suddenly his eyes fell on his own reflection in the water of the lake.
Still drinking the water, he admired his horns in the reflection. "What a beautiful pair of horns!" thought he to himself. Then, he noticed his slender legs. "Ugh! How ugly!" he wondered and disliked them at first sight.
The stag was busy admiring his pretty horns and lamenting over his slender legs. Just then, he heard roar of wolves. And a pack of wolves appeared.
He ran for his life with the help of those 'ugly' legs. And now his pretty long horns got stuck in thick bush. He now lamented over the horns he admired a while ago!
Conclusion: Not all that shines is gold. The things appearing beautiful from outside might not be actually helpful. At the same time, even the ugliest of things can be of use at the time of need.
