The neonatal stage is the shortest of all developmental periods.
- There are various developmental stages of a human being neonatal, pre-natal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and many more. It goes on from the time a mother conceives the child to the individual's death.
- The neonatal stage is the initial four weeks of a child which is almost a month. It is the very first four weeks of any child's life. It is a rapid and fast-growing stage where much development takes place. But simultaneously it is one of the most crucial stages as well.
- A child is very tender at this stage and is at high risk of complications in post-birth situations. Even in this stage, there is the perinatal stage which signifies the immediate period that is just after the birth or delivery of a child.
- In this stage, the newborn babies are defined as neonates and are closely looked upon for the initial hours after birth, especially the premature ones that is the ones who are born ahead of nine months if the delivery was full of complications then the child is looked upon more thoroughly.
- Immediately after birth, a baby's overall health is looked upon including the oxygen levels, blood group, heart rate and many more.
