Given info : Standard enthalpy of formation of water is -286 kJ/mol.

To find : the enthalpy change for the formation of 0.018 kg of water is ...

solution : enthalpy of formation is the change in enthalpy for the formation of one mole of the substance from its constituent elements where all substances are in their standard states.

if standard enthalpy of water is -286 kJ/mol, it means 286 kJ energy is released when we form one mole of water.

now no of moles of 0.018 kg of water = given mass/molar mass of water

= (0.018 × 10³ g)/(18 g/mol)

= 1 mol

Therefore the enthalpy change for the formation of 0.018 kg of water = no of moles of water × enthalpy of formation

= 1 mol × -286 kJ/mol

= -286 kJ
