FIRST STANZA:
The poet starts describing the hands of the his/her dad. It's said to be strong, big and tough. The dad's hands are described to be strong and he can do a lot of work. But when the hands are used for helping the poet, the dad uses his hands gently(softly) and with great care.
SECOND STANZA:
In this stanza, the hands of the dad are said to have been setting an example to the poet on how to live. Like a role model, someone to look up to as the hands teach him to do a lot of things, such as work. Like cooking, drawing, writing.
THIRD STANZA:
In the last stanza, the poet says how his hands are small right now. And also he makes mistakes, but he learns a lesson from his bad mistakes.
The poet says that ONE DAY his hands will be like his dad's, strong and helpful and wonderful.
