Star aps slightly higher than its actual position in the sky why? Give reason

stars appear slightly higher than its actual position due the the fact that the ray of light produced by it suffers refraction as it travels through different layers of the earths atmosphere(of varying densities)...parallax error also contributes to the phenomenon
