Starting from a stationary position, Anil paddles his bicycle to attain a velocity of 10 m s
-1
in
25 s. Then, he applies brakes such that he again comes to rest after next 50 s.
Calculate the acceleration of the bicycle in both cases.

Answer:

acc & distance in 1st case :

given t = 25sec , u = 0m/s , v = 10m/s

from 1st equation of motion ,

v = u + at

=> 10 = 0 + a(25)

=> a = 10/25 = 0.4m/s^2

from 2nd equation of motion ,

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

=> 100 = 2(0.4)(s)

=> 100/0.8 = s

=> s = 125m

acc & distance in 2nd case :

the final velocity in 1st case becomes initial velocity in 2nd case so

u = 10m/s , t = 50sec , v = 0m/s

from 1st equation of motion ,

v = u + at

=> 0 = 10 + a(50)

=> -10 = 50a

=> a = -10/50 = -0.2m/s^2

here acc is negative because it indicates its direction which is opposite to direction of motion

by second equation of motion,

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

=> 0^2 - 10^2 = 2(-0.2)(s)

=> -100 = -0.4s

=> s = 100/0.4 = 250m

total distance covered in both cases is 250 + 125 = 375m

hope it helps u !!!!!
