starting from a stationary position, rajan drive his scooter to attain a velocity 600 m/s in 30 sec. then he applies breaks such that velocity of scooter comes down to 400 m/s in the next 5 sec. calculate the acceleration of scooter in both cases.

In first case rajan starts from rest and gains 600 m/s velocity in 30 seconds.

u = 0

v = 600 m/s

t = 30 s

a = v-u/t (or u can use 1 st equation of motion v=u+at)

= 600-0/30

= 600/30 = 20 m/s²

In the second case rajan's speed decreases from 600 m/s to 400 m/s in 5 seconds.

u = 600 m/s

v = 400 m/s

t = 5 s

a = v-u/t

= 400-600/5

= -200/5 = -40 m/s² (-ve sign indicates that it is performing retardation)
