Starting from home a person goes to market 2km from home and returned back to a friend's house on same road 500m from the market. It took him 40min to complete the journey. What is speed and velocity? Which one of them is larger value?

Velocity = displacement/time

Here, velocity = 1500/40x60     (Since displacement = 2km-500m and 40 minutes = 40x60 seconds)

  1. Therefore, velocity = 0.625 m/s

Speed = distance/time

Here, speed = 2500/40x60      (Since distance = 2km+500m and 40 minutes = 40x60 seconds)

    2. Therefore, speed = 1.04 m/s (Approximately)

    3. => Speed is larger than velocity
