a. Sodium metal from sodium chloride : Sodium is prepared from fused (molten) sodium chloride.
b.Sodium hydroxide from sodium chloride : Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) is generally pre-pared by the electrolysis of brine solution (NaCl solution in water) in Castner Kellner cell.
c.First, NaCl is electrolysed to result in the formation of Na metal (Downs process).
This sodium metal is then heated on aluminium trays in air (free of CO2) to form its peroxide.
d. Sodium carbonate from sodium
chloride : Sodium carbonate is prepared from an aqueous solution of NaCl by Solvay Process.
