Producers such as plants produce food by absorbing energy from sun light and minerals from soil . Herbivores eat this plant and gain energy but they only gain 10 percent of energy from producers.Same happens with carnivores.Only 10 percent of energy is passed from one tropic level to other this is known as 10 percent law
