hii,

The president is elected indirectly because-

=>Under the cabinet system ofc government president was to function as a constitution head of the state so the direct election by the nation is not necessary.

=>If there is a direct election of the president then the presidential candidate has to carry an election campaign from one part of the country to another will certainly be put up by some party.

=>The other and this will generate political excitement and party feelings and this is not positive for the country.

plz mark me as brillianties if it is helpfull plz

Answer:

Reason for the indirect election of President our first president election may consume a lot of time energy and money second the President of elected directly he will be rival to prime Minister third As most of the population of Indian illiterate so people can be influenced easily

Explanation:

The system of indirect election for the President of India was criticized upon in the Constituent Assembly but it was chosen for the following reasons:

As the President is only a nominal executive, to have him elected by the people but not give him any real power would be an anomaly.

A directly elected Head of the State, if not content with his position, can claim his authority being directly from the people. It would lead to a deadlock.

Also, as the President is a symbolic head, direct election would have been time consuming and costly owing to the large size of the electorate.

If direct election were to be adopted, the candidate would carry on an election campaign in the country. In doing so he would be affiliated to one party or the other and might not forget his affiliations after getting elected. This is not desirable for someone expected to be a non-party man and respected by all factions.

So, the President is elected indirectly by the Electoral College (comprising of elected representatives at center and states) and this gives him greater moral independence and authority.

The system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote for electing president is according to our parliamentary form of government with the Prime Minister as the head of the Executive.
