The following are the 5 factors which can lead to disqualification of an electorate from the exercise of franchise :
1) Every citizen of India who has turned 18 years at the time of the qualifying date, which is the 1st day of January of the concerned year when the revision of electoral roll took place. Failing which may lead to disqualification.
2) A non citizen of India is not eligible for getting himself or herself registered as an electorate in the electoral rolls of the country.
3) Persons who take up citizen of another country ceases to be Indian citizens and therefore are not eligible to be registered in the electoral rolls of the country.
4) The Election Commissioner of India has made the electoral identification compulsory during polls. In simple words a voter needs to show his or her Voter ID Card or any documentary proof which is issued/ allowed by the Election Commissioner of India in order to participate in election.
5) Having a voter ID card does not guarantee that he or she will be allowed to vote. It is important that the electorate name should on the electoral rolls. In case it does not feature he or she can be disqualified from voting.
