Dalton stated many postulates and they are :
1. Elements are made up of very small particles known as atoms.
2. compounds are made up of the combination of two or more elements joined together.
3. Atoms of a given element are identical in nature, mass and other properties
4. atoms of different elements differ in size, mass and chemical properties
5. All matter are made of atoms. They are indestructible and indivisible
6. in a chemical reaction the relative no and types of atoms remain same.

His postulate which is 6 explain the law of constant proportion.
