Answer:

Statement

      Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can be transformed from one form to another

Proof

     Consider a spring of constant k stretched to a distance x from the initial position. When a spring is stretched, work is done. This work done is stored as potential energy of in the spring. Hence potential energy of the spring at a distance x is given by

                          PE=1/2kx²

When the stretched spring is released, it oscillates about the mean position, hence potential energy stored in the spring is completely converted into kinetic energy.

                    KE=1/2mv²

        ∴KE=PE

          1/2mv²=1/2kx²
