Heya!!

friend,

This law states that every body in the universe attracts every other body with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportion to the square of the distance between them. The direction of the force is acting along the line joining the centres of two bodies.

as shown in the above figure, we consider two bodies A and B of masses m1 and m2. let "r" be the distance between their centres.

if F is the force with which the two bodies attract each other, then according to the law of gravitation,

F is proportional to m1 and m2.

and F is inversely proportional to 1/r^2

combining the two factors, we get,

F is directly proportional to m1m2/r^2

F=Gm1m2/r^2.

where G is a proportionality constant, called universal gravitational constant and found by henry cavendish to be
G=6.67 ×10 ^-11 Nm^2kg^-2

The value of G is equal to the magnitude of force between a pair of 1kg masses that are 1 meter apart.

Hope it helps!!
