Answer:

A simple manometer consists of a glass tube having one of its ends connected to a point where pressure is to be measured and other end remains open to atmosphere. A differential manometer is a device that measures the difference in pressure between two places.

Answer:

Simple manometer (piezometer) consists of only one liquid. It never gives the negative pressure reading. But in differential manometer, two (or three) liquids are used. Pressure difference of two different liquids can be measured conveniently. Also, it is advanced from any other manometer for its feasibility. Fluids of low vapor pressure and high density (i.e. Mercury) requires a short tube, whether fluids like water would require a very long tube to measure the pressure head. So in laboratory or practical purpose in engineering, differential manometer is used in general.
