magnetic field lines are imagery line used to represent magnetic field
Characteristics are as follows:
1.they do not intersect each other
2.the relative strength of magnetic field lines is given by the degree of closeness
3.their direction is indicated by arrows in the line at any point
4.the direction of field line inside the magnet is from south to north pole and vice-versa outside the magnet

Magnetic field lined do not intersect each other because if there would be intersection between the magnetic fields then there would be two tangents which would represent two different distances.
But it is not possible practically to denote to two directions at the same time.
The magnetic fields would also come very close which is not possible.
