1. Poland was known as the Polish People’s Republic.

Poland was founded in 1025 as a Kingdom. In 1569, along with Lithuania, it formed the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. By the end of 18th century, Poland broke free from the commonwealth and regained independence in 1918.

In World War II, Poland was first invaded by Germany and later on by the Soviets. In 1947 it was established as Polish People’s Republic, a state under the control of Soviet Union. In 1989, through uprisings, it emerged as a democratic republic.
