Provisional government took many steps to suppress the Bolshevik influence-

(i)it resisted attempts by workers to run factories and began arresting leaders.

(ii)military men loyal to the provisional government seized the buildings of two Bolshevik newspaper.

(iii)Popular demonstration staged by the Bolshevik were sternly repressed. Many Bolshevik leaders had to go into hiding.
