Three merits of roadways are :-
(a) They are cheaper than railways in terms of construction costs.
(b) Roads can go through dissected and undulating land areas and through steep mountains.
(c) They are economical as loading costs are low and door-to-door service can be availed of.

Merits of roadways are :
1) Construction costs of road is much lower than the railway lines.
2) Roads can traverse mountains, dissected and undulating typography comparatively.
3) Roads can negotiate higher gradients of slopes and as such can traverse mountains such as Himalayas.
4) It is economical in transportation of few persons and relatively smaller amount of food over short distances.
5) It also provides door-to-door service, this the cost of loading and unloading is much lower.
6) Road transport is also used as a feeder to other modes of transport such as they provide a link between railway stations, air and sea ports.
