Salvador Allende was the president of Chile, who led the popular Unity Coalition to victory in the presidential election in 1970. Salvador Allende introduced many reforms after forming his government for the poor and the workers of Chile. These are as follows.
1. Allende began to carry out his platform of implementing social reforms including nationalization of large scale industries (notably copper, mining and banking).
2.Implemented the Government administration for healthcare system, education system and started free milk program for children in the schools and shanty towns of Chile.
3.Allende also intended to improve the socio-economic welfare of Chile's poorest citizens, a key element was to provide employment, either in the new nationalized enterprises or on public work projects.
4. He started state sponsored programs for distributing free food to country's neediest citizens.
5. In early 1971 he raised minimum wages for blue collar workers by 37 %-41% and 8%-10% for white collar workers.
Salvador Allende's rule is certainly regarded as democratic because people enjoyed political freedom and rights in Chile under his rule. He started many programs for betterment of poor people of Chile and also redistributed lands to the poor landless farmers.
