\bf\large\underline\red{Applications \:of \:acoustics:-}

(1) Bats emit short ultrasonic of frequency ranging from 30 kHz to 150 kHz while flying. They listen to the echoes produced by the pulse reflected from the obstacle in their path. From the time taken by the echo to be heard, bats get information about the obstacle in their path. This enables them to fly in the darkness of night. In the same way, they can search their prey at night.

(2) Dolphins use the method of echolocation for underwater navigation. This helps them to locate their prey and protect them from predators. They can even determine the size of the prey or of any object in their path by analyzing the echoes they receive

(3) High pressure and high amplitude shock waves are used to break kidney stones into tiny pieces without invasive surgery. A reflector or acoustic lens is used to transmit the shock wave so that the maximum amount of energy is concentrated on the stone. The strong ultrasound vibrations shake the stones causing them to break into tiny pieces. These tiny pieces can then be easily removed
