There was no such thing as India at that time.. British tried to rule over different provinces. Some kings/queens fought against them to protect their kingdoms. Some people just gave in. In fact Tipu had waged a war against most Hindus in Malabar and was successfully able to destroy temples and make them as mosques.

Tipu plundered wealth from the rehions he ruled, just liek any other foreign ruler
