Utkal Now known as Odisha, has mention in our National Anthem (Remember Punjab Sindhu Gujrat Maratha Dravida Utkal Banga).People of Odisha are known as Odia, the language we speak Odia and our dance form is Odissi. This is a combo not seen in any other state.We Odias call our Mother “BOU”. The sweet name ever. Am i right?In odia houses elders and father call their daughters or girls by MAA, Budietc.Odia people are very simple, their way of living is very simple. Most of us are satisfied with simple things. We are not very demanding people.And when we meet an Odia outside of Odisha, it feels like we have met someone very close to us like they are our own relatives.Odias are very helpful in nature. May be we Odias are called as poorest people but our heart is gold.Mostly we address our elders by names like Mausa, Mausi,Bhai, Didi,Mamuetc. instead of Aunty & Uncle. This is prevalent in both urban and rural areas equally.Odias celebrate 13 different festivals in a year and there is a famous saying which goes like this “BARA MASA TERA PARABA”.When i was kid, On every Sunday after lunch I used to watch an Odia film with my family telecasted on DD Odiya. Many of us were fan of Sidhanta and Rachana then. Isn't it?And the another thing is that so many Odia people are active on Quora. It is the best thing about Odia people.

Pakhala Bhata- The soul of all Odias. There is a saying “ODIA MANA ODIA PRANA BUJHE PAKHALA KANSA”.And after eating Pakhala Bhata Odias don’t forget to drink Torani ( water of the rice). The liquid part is known as “TORANI”.Pakhala bhata is served as Breakfast, lunch, Dinner in Villages. When i go to village i eat it all day. (rarely eat roti).

Personally, following are some of the items, I like to eat with Pakhala. And I can bet other Odia people do the same.

Saga Bhaza ( Sajana saga, Kosala, Bhazi Saga and also Kalama).Badi chura.Amba Chatani ( Mango chutney).Lanka and Ambula dala- (A typical Odia food)- A green chili with one or two garlic and a Ambula khatta. Just wow.Alu Bhrata , Baingan Bharata, Tomato Dala.Dry fish(Sukhua) and green chili with garlic.A burnt Ladies finger with garlic and chili. (Poda vendi au lanka dala).
