Suppose a long straight wire having current I flowing through it in upward direction. Using right hand thumb rule we can say that the direction of the magnetic field will be in anticlockwise direction as shown in the following figure,

Now, using Biot Savart's law we can say that the magnetic fields B is directly proportional to the current flowing though it and inversely proportional to the distance of the filed from the conductor. Mathematically we can write,

where, μo is the permeability of the free space.
