During the later Vedic period,the society got divided into four water tight compartments- The Brahmans, Kshatriyas,Vaishays and Shudras.

The Brahmans becomes the most respected and influential caste since then.They began to lead the sacrifices and rituals of the people and began to enjoy privilages from the later Vedic period.

They occupied the position of teacher and priests in the society
