Acids donate H+ ions in water ( Arrhenius acids specifically) . They turn blue litmus to red and aren't soapy to touch , corrosive action on skin and have pH below 7 ( given a temperature of around 25 C)
Ex: HCl , H2SO4, HNO3
Bases donate OH- ions in water , moist red litmus to blue , are soapy to touch, corrosive , have pH >7
Ex: NaOH , KOH, Ca(OH)2 - these are alkalis i.e, water soluble bases.
