Answer:

Manuscripts were handwritten documents that were produced before the onset of printing. Manuscripts involved recording the information on either hard surface by engraving or on dried animal skin or tree leaves. Scribes copied the relevant information on manuscripts. The pages were either pressed or sewn together to preserve them. Manuscripts were expensive and fragile and incorporated artistic styles like calligraphy. Since it took a long time to produce a complete manuscript of a literary work, the pace of production was slow and not many people had access to it. This restricted the flow of information and ideas.

Print culture was defined by accelerated production of books and printed material. This led to mass production of books and their circulation increased. Common people began to have access to these books and came in contact with the ideas of leading thinkers of the time. Thus, it led to a stimulation of intellectual tradition.

Answer:

MANUSCRIPTS:

1. Since they were handwritten by scribes it was a laborious and time consuming process and hence they were also more expensive as compared to printed copies.

2. Manuscripts were not very durable. They were fragile, awkward to handle and could not be carried around easily.

3. Manuscripts were sometimes hard to read since they were written in various different styles.

PRINT:

1. The cost of printed copies was relatively less as compared to manuscripts.

2. This is because they were mass produced, were more durable and less time consuming to produce. they could be easily carried around.

3. Printed copies had a selective style of writing which was easy for the common people to interpret and read. Thus, printed copies were preferred over manuscripts.
