1. The British extended their control over all forest and declared that forests were state property.
2. Some forests were classified as 'reserved forests' for the produced Timber which the British wanted.
3. In this forests, people were not allowed to move freely, practice jhum cultivation, collect fruits or hunt animals.
4. Jhum cultivation could not survive in such a situation, so they were forced to move to other areas in search of work and livelihood.
