Answer: Properties of covalent compounds: 1) when the difference in electronegativities of element is lesser , covalent bond is formed.

2) Due to weaker forces of attraction, they have low melting and boiling points.

3) They are generally soft and waxy .

4) They are usually insoluble in polar solvents but soluble in  non-polar solvents.

Properties of ionic compounds : 1) when there is a large difference between the electronegativities of elements , then ionic bond is formed

2) Due to stringer forces of attraction , they have high melting and boiling points.

3) Generally they are hard and brittle.

4) As they are polar molecules , so are easily soluble in polar solvents.
