It is called Medical diagnosis. It is a procedure which tells us the cause of a disease by its symptoms and signs.  

Other than this, there are multiple tests also run to diagnose a particular disease. For example urine test, ultrasound test etc. These tests can provide accurate information of all the conditions which do not have apparent signs and symptoms.
