when in pure water they do not necessarily absorb water..bout in a sugar solution osmosis will take place where the conc. solution is absorbed in my the material(dry apricot)...making the apricot full, plum and rigid. this is a perfect example of osmosis. hope i was correct.

Answer:

Dry apricots have more solutes than pure water. ... When such apricots are transferred to the sugar solution, then the solution will be the hypertonic bearing high amount of solute. Hence, exosmosis, i.e., water will move from inside to the outside of apricot through the apricot wall. Due to this, apricot will shrink.

Hope It Helps!!
